In the competition for camera support equipment, Vinten took gold again, as Panasonic, the Sydney Olympic Broadcast Organisation’s (SOBO) Prime Contractor, announced that Vinten had been selected to provide camera support systems for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Up to 300 Vinten camera support systems will be used in a wide range of venues from the Olympic Stadium to the Sydney Superdome and Olympic Rifle Range.

The Panasonic full studio camera model AQ-235WE will be supported by the Vector 700 pan & tilt heads and HD-1 Heavy Duty Tripods. The cameras will be outfitted with 20X to 70X large lenses. The Vector 700 features the Vinten patented perfect balance system and incorporates their unique TF Thin Film drag system for precise camera movement, and whip pan capability over a wide operating temperature range of –40° to +60°C.
Vinten are also supplying Vision 250M Systems, with the same TF Thin Film drag, whip pan and perfect balance capabilities, to support Panasonic’s AQ-23 WUE with 5” viewfinder EFP cameras, which will be outfitted with 20X to 36X lenses.
Panasonic’s digital ENG/EFP camcorder models AJ-D910WAE DVCPro-50 and AJ-D610WAE DVCPro-25 will be supported by Vinten’s Vision 11ST-2 and Vision 100C lightweight tripod systems. The Vision 11 fluid pan/tilt head features adjustable counterbalance with digital display and illuminated balance bubble and drag knobs.
Vision lightweight systems will be used with the 100Cs at all venues, and will travel with the World Broadcasters for interviews and human-interest stories of the athletes.
Vinten Camera Support Systems are part of a package selected by Panasonic on behalf of SOBO. Panasonic will also provide a wide variety of services to SOBO to insure that the world’s most prestigious broadcasters capture the highest quality video images.
