Dick Miller, Director of Engineering – Comcast SportsNet
“We’ve used many Vinten products over the last 20- 25 years. It’s a reliable, workhorse product and support has been very good. ProPeds with Petrels are used in the Comcast SportsNet studios and Vector 70’s with Sony HD900 and HD950 cameras with large lenses are used during sporting events. The cameras are struck after every event unless we have games back to back. Eight cameras in the ballpark, with six mounted and a couple of hand held. We are also using robotics cameras in the production of live events.
When looking for new equipment, purchase decisions are made on price, performance and service. Performance and service are key factors in selection of any product.
We use full time staff and freelance cameramen and all are familiar with the products. The Vector 700’s have been very good and they have been rock solid. It’s a nice head that’s very easy to balance.
If there is a failure it is sent in for service and usually repaired and returned overnight”
Quote from camera operator:
“I like the peds. Many people use them throughout the week and adjust them however they like. It has everything you need and is sturdy and it has cable guards and locks. There are no problems with balancing and camera movements. - We move the pedestals a lot, requiring us to build and rebuild them using minimum and maximum heights and they are easy to maintain. It is easy to take this kit down the hall for pre-game interviews and for high platforms we can easily lift these up. This smaller equipment really is a big advantage for moving it around easily while still having control over your elevation. – Dan”
