Sun TV, one of the four key satellite TV channels in India caters mainly for Tamil viewers in the State of Tamil Nadu, providing news, chat show and entertainment programming. The group also has other channels in the Southern region known as Surya, Gemini and Udaya.
To enhance the excellent operational facilities, and support their continuing development into full production news programming using ‘high end’ products, Sun TV Mumbai has just invested in a range of camera supports for their new multi-studio facility.
Extensive negotiations took place between Vinten distributor, Perlink India and Sun TV, and initially focussed on the portable Osprey range. However, it soon became apparent that the highest level of operational performance and flexibility was required. Accordingly, Quattro pedestals were specified for the first time in India, and a total of eight top of the range 4-stage pedestals with Vector 700 pan & tilt heads were purchased, and used to televise the results of the parliamentary elections.
The Quattro and Vector have been chosen by Sun TV to support their new Philips LDK20 studio cameras, box lenses and teleprompter combinations taking the significant decision to invest in professional broadcast high end equipment during 1999.
Vector 700 pan & tilt heads incorporate a unique patented counterbalancing system, enabling the cameraman to quickly and simply balance the head when changing camera combinations, without the need for time consuming cam changes.
Vinten Quattro pedestals with their four stages of elevation provide an extensive high and low shot capability, together with the smoothest tracking and movement for today’s unobtrusive programme making.
For outside broadcast production, Sun TV specified that Vinten HD-1 Heavy Duty tripods were used with Vector 700 pan & tilt heads, and Arun Gupta of Perlink India has reported that "they have performed flawlessly throughout the very demanding schedule".
