Cornerstone Media Productions, Inc. provides an alternative to ‘big-city’ production companies. Started in 1985, they have grown from a one-room startup to a full-scale studio. Two years ago they introduced their multimedia division and found that they did not need to use high-end Digital Broadcast cameras for CD-ROM content. So they bought various DV cameras, including the Canon XL-1, Panasonic EZ1 and Sony’s new DSR-PD150 camera. This expansion meant they also needed a new professional lightweight head and tripod that could be used with both small and larger-scale cameras, yet be extremely portable and lightweight. Since they had been using the Vinten Vision 10, 100 and 30 heads and tripods for years, their first choice naturally was to look at Vinten and see what they could offer.
Rick Greenberg, President and Stephen King, Production Manager, takes up the story...
"We tried out their new Vision 3, and were instantly sold. It had all the features we’ve come to expect from Vinten but in a small, lightweight version. They were able to incorporate their variable tilt counterbalance in a smaller package by using easily interchangeable springs. We found by using the #2 (4 pound) and # 10 (22 pound) springs we could balance our new DV and some of our larger cameras as well. Because the Vision 3 is a lightweight tripod, we are able to perform more creative shots in areas where our larger tripods would not fit, or would be too cumbersome."
"Recently we used our Vision 3 tripod for a “Pump Panel Operations” training CD-ROM for the Georgetown, DE, Fire Dept. We needed to be able to shoot straight down to show an overhead view of the operator. This new tripod allowed us to climb around the apparatus, and shoot the angles we wanted without having to bring in large, bulky equipment, which would have meant a larger budget. By utilizing the Vision 3, our production was very successful and we look forward to using it more in our smaller camera productions."
