Once again a world-renowned sporting event and Vinten were at the centre of the action

The Wimbledon tennis tournament was held this year from 24 June – 7 July. Despite poor weather at times, The Championships were another huge success, with the second highest attendance in the tournament's history.

Once again the BBC were exclusive host broadcasters for the event, with BBC Outside Broadcast, their OB trucks, equipment and staff accommodating the broadcasting services centre on-site at Wimbledon.

On taking a walk around the venue, Vinten products could be spotted in strategic locations from courtside, in the seating area and a small studio where the players were interviewed.

The BBC uses a large quantity of Vinten equipment and utilises the UK Vinten hire facility as and when demand requires.

The viewers watching on TV at home saw a combination of footage gathered and cut from the cameras around Centre Court.

Camera 1 covered the whole court and was live approximately 90% of the time, with cameras 8 and 2 used for slow motion action replay and capturing those shots for line calls.

Cameras 7, 3 and 4 gathered close footage of the players.

At position 8, the Vector 700 was put through its paces following all the high-speed action, panning and tilting continuously and effortlessly to capture each shot.

Vector has a great reputation:

Our first choice is Vector for this type of work and the Vision range for the lightweight cameras. The Vector heads are essential as they are the only heads capable of producing the smoothness of shot we require.
Vectors are what I expect to see when I open up a pan and tilt head box

Vinten are the market leader

The small location studio used for the breakfast show and interviews utilised four Osprey Elites with older Vinten heads. They also used the new Quickfix adapters, allowing the heads to be removed quickly and easily without the need for tools.
So, it's game set and match for Vinten at Wimbledon - once again helping broadcasters to provide viewing pleasure all over the world.
