VINTEN BROADCAST IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

06/12/2000

Vinten pedestals found themselves in front of the cameras recently instead of supporting them when part of an episode in the Discovery Channel series ‘Pure Invention’ was filmed at the Bury St Edmunds factory.

The programme links artificial limbs and pneumatic pedestal technology to the modern-day TV studio. David Hatter - Director and Producer of Oval Films and himself an ex-cameraman - chose Vinten because of the impact they have made on TV production, through precision engineering and innovation.

In the programme, Bill Vinten – son of the company’s founder and former Director, takes the presenter, Maxwell Hutchinson, on a brief tour around the factory, giving him an insight into the inspiration behind the original Vinten pedestal and the stages of its development. Maxwell then goes on to explain the fundamentals of the pedestal using his interesting and original methods to excite his audience.

The programme highlights both the attention to detail and care that is taken to produce the products for which Vinten are famous, featuring many of the computer-controlled machining and testing installations used throughout the factory to create the final product.

The Vinten contribution concludes with a look at an original 1950’s Vinten pedestal, comparing it with the latest AutoCam™ robotic pedestal. The AutoCam proved particularly interesting to the presenter, who proceeded to be chased around the studio by the remotely controlled pedestal!

The programme clearly shows how Vinten’s innovative approach enables them to continue as undisputed world leaders in the camera support industry, and will be screened on the Discovery Home and Leisure Channel on 20 Feb at 4pm and on 8 May at 8.35 am and 4pm.
